plaster it’s everywhere you want to be
You might say why not use plain mortar, cement plaster usually called stucco in the U.S. and or render in the U.K? Excellent question, answer, in the last century, Portland based products have a Very high strength, they also set quick and are water resistant but will not stick well to old concrete without a bonding agent first applied.
Poly Bond is a polymer modified Portland based cement product What the heck does this mean?
Another great question, this product has a greater flexural strength, than Portland cement plaster by itself.
Remember these are concrete steps and stucco over concrete foundations, would caulking work better, possibly but many coats would be necessary, plus the texture would not match well when painted.
Hello ambitious guys and gals, who are interested in learning how to do it yourself, now possibly you can.
How? Watch, this video explain I teach how to large Repair Structural Cracks in stucco and concrete.
Poly bond is not sold at the major chain hardware stores such as Lowes or Home depot, and it is not engineered for this application as I say in the video, however this is a technique I have been using for more than 30 years, to keep concrete steps from shifting as much as possible.
If you do wish to purchase polybond go to a plastering material yard, I mix sand with the poly bond anytime I’m going over a quarter of an inch myself or it can take forever to dry plus it will crack if applied more than 1/4 inch without sand added.
You homeowners are better off applying a polyurethane caulking up to three times to get a similar effect as these cracks are much too large for any caulking to fill so repete caulking would be unfortunately necessary. Possibly up to three applications.
With a small bit of attention you can and will save cash, create a sense of euphoria and sleep well knowing, no problemo, I did this repair myself.
Save cash, great workout, sense of accomplishment, what more in life does a righteous person desire?
Old Kirk says, material knowledge is 70% of being a well rounded plasterer,
The other 30% is application.
