In this video I show you how I paint and stain my beehive so it will last a very long time. I first stain my beehive with a minwax stain to give it a nice natural look. Then I will coat it with a fiberglass resin. This will make your hive waterproof and will give it a nice clear coat.
The stain will give you the color you want, so if you want something different than what you see here go for it!!
Once you pick the color of stain you want then you can put on the fiberglass resin. I will show you how I do that in this video here:

UPODATE: 5/26/2015 These boxes are still going strong. In fact, due to jsutherlygmail comments I tried the Eco Wood Treatment on 3 hives last year and they all were warped and cracking after one year. I wish I would have kept painting my boxes with the fiberglass resin because they have done so well. I am now in the process of redoing the 3 hives that I had the Eco Wood Treatment on and painting them in the fiberglass resin. I have to try and straighten them all out first, which has been a pain. I will paint every box like this from now on. I don’t know if this is a good solution for someone who has more than 10 hives, but it works well for the backyard beekeeper.
