Paint the pot below the rubber band with primer, then let it dry. Paint over the primer with acrylic craft paint, then let it dry. Wrap the top, unpainted part of the terra-cotta pot in aluminum foil. Apply two to three coats of spray shellac, then let it dry. Score the paint along the edge of the rubber band to loosen it.
