Forward and Backward modules production for the VerteX Detector of the Belle II experiment in Japan, where studies on CP violation will be conducted and hints for New Physics will be searched.
——————–
Belle II is a high energy physics experiment now under realisation at the KEK Laboratory located in Tsukuba, Japan, where the new SuperKEKB asymmetric electron-positron collider will produce an unprecedented rate of collisions every second.
The very high rate of events produced by this collider leads to the challenging task of detect all the relevant events produced during the electron-positron collisions. For this purpose the Belle II detector, an upgrade of the old Belle detector operating at the old machine KEKB, has been designed and is now under construction.
Among all the sub-detectors that compose the Belle II detector, the closest one to the interaction point is the VerteX Detector (VXD). The VXD is made by the PiXel Detector (PXD), realised with two layers of DEPFET silicon pixel detectors, and the Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD), realised with four layers of double sided silicon strip detectors. The VXD is fundamental to reconstruct the trajectories of particles that lives around one trillionth of a second and to find the point where these particles decay with a precision of a tenth of a millimeter.
In this video the production process of a part of the SVD detector is shown. In particular, the one in the video is the backward subassembly, made of a double sided silicon strip sensor, two kapton flex circuits and a hybrid board with the read-out electronics on it. This sub-assembly, together with the forward one, is then shipped to other production sites all around the world to build the whole SVD detector. The video has been done inside the clean room laboratory of INFN (National Institute for Nuclear Physics) located in Pisa, Italy, where scientists of INFN and University of Pisa are working for the Belle II experiment.
