New York — A 34-year-old woman died last Saturday in Queens, New York after receiving silicone injections to her buttocks from an unlicensed “doctor” who has since gone into hiding.
Last Saturday, Kelly Mayhew and her mother drove up to a house in Queens to receive silicone butt injections from a person who performed the procedure for a fraction of the cost. When the quack doctor was in the process of injecting liquid silicone into Mayhew’s buttocks, she started gurgling and had difficulty breathing.
Paramedics took Mayhew to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where she died. Mayhew’s friends and her mother do not know the identity of the phony doctor. A friend who referred Kelly to the doctor has also disappeared.
Detectives are on the hunt for the fake doctor.
Silicone and other synthetic substances are can cause severe allergic reactions and even organ failure. Implants containing silicone are generally considered safe because they are confined and sealed — when the procedure is performed by a licensed medical professional.
