I made this box for one of my kayaks, for some of the accessories I’ll have with me during longer trips. Most of 12V readily available batteries are lead acid – read: heavy and expensive. Even basic 12V lead acid batteries are not really something I’d consider cheap, about £25 at least and then you have the cost of waterproof container and other bits.
For this particular box I used lockable food container with some Sub-C cells for battery pack. I also added a voltmeter to be able to monitor the charge of the battery pack (I will be adding small solar panel to the set up eventually to keep everything happy on longer trips). I made mistake and used 2-part epoxy glue instead of silicone sealant, which is more flexible and thus more suitable for this application.

Airpad is an uncured non-silicone rubber that can be made into pressure caul sheets and flexible mandrels. The Airpad pressure intensifier provides uniform pressure distribution during autoclave processing. This creates toolside part quality on the vacuum bag side of the part. Airpad will take high temperature similar to silicone rubbers but will not cause silicone contamination. Airpad is dimensionally stable when reinforced with Toolmaster® Prepreg TMGP 4100 or TMFP 3100. Toolmaster® TMGP 4100 and TMFP 3100 have the same flow and cure temperature as Airpad making a perfect bond. Toolmaster® is a hot melt system that does not give off volatiles from solvents that could also cause delamination. Airpad must be reinforced with Toolmaster® prepreg to stay dimensionally stable. Never reinforce the male radius if stretch is needed.
