The most common cause of a BMW engine light coming on is a loose fuel cap. An old fuel cap can seize up and no longer “click”. The rubber gasket can also become too compressed to be effective. A quick fix is to spray silicone lubricant (do not use any other kind), into the cap, twist is with your hands a few times until it starts to click again, then flip the rubber gasket upside down. This video shows the steps. Hopefully this will save you some unnecessary trip$ to the dealer.
