FOUNDATION WATERPROOFING – against ground moisture and water
Ceresit offers complete systems for every kind of waterproofing.
Chosen product and application method should depend on construction’s type, water load and requirements of the country.
CERESIT WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE SYSTEM
Bituminous self-adhesive membrane system against ground moisture and water
1,SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Before application of the waterproofing materials check if the substrate is dry, even, compact, stable, free of dust and laitance.
CX 5 Rapid cement

CX 20INSTALLATION AND REPARATION MORTAR
Any damage at the substrate should be filled in and levelled with e.g. cementitious mortar. Chamfer all edges at an angle of less than 450.
Get rid of any substances which decrease adhesion.
To remove all loose particles and laitance from the substrate use the grinding machine or steel brush.
Remove the dust properly to prepare the surface for priming.
2, PRIMER APPLICATION
At temperatures lower than +50C (down to 00C), use BT 26 primer undiluted.Mix BT 26 Primer carefully with water at a ratio of 1:1 parts by volume. The diluted primer can be used at temperatures above +50C.
BT 26 “ALL-WEATHER” PRIMER
https://www.ceresit.com/en/products/waterproofing/balconies-terraces-patios/bitumen-membrane-products/bt-26-all-weather-primer.html
Use a brush to apply a generous and uniform coat.In the case of coarse-pored surfaces, e.g. pumice and hollow blocks as well as aerated concrete. The primer must always be used undiluted.
Check if the priming coat is completely dry!
The drying time depends on the climate conditions and type of substrate.
BT 18 SELF-ADHESIVE WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE

BT 21 “ALL-WEATHER” WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE
https://www.ceresit.com/en/products/waterproofing/balconies-terraces-patios/bitumen-membrane-products/bt-21-all-weather-sealing-membrane.html
Check the adhesion of the membrane to the substrate.Take a membrane strip of 20 cm length and press half of it to the wall. Then try to pull it off. If the primer comes off the substrate, adhesion is not yet sufficient.Adhesion is sufficient if the membrane can only forcibly be removed from the substrate.
3, MEMBRANE APPLICATION
- Securing corners
It is very important to install a separate protection of inner and outer corners. These areas are especially endanger with water and moisture.Membrane elements of adequate shape and size should be previously prepared. For faster working progress you can use prefabricated inner and outer corner elements (CA 25 and CA 26).

These elements can be fixed on the priming coat with adhesive or sealant, e.g. FT 101 or BT 40.
FT 101 FLEXTEC® SEALING COMPOUND WITH FLEXTEC® TECHNOLOGY

BT 40 EXPANDING PU ADHESIVE FOAM
After that membrane should be put according to the installation instruction. In case of pipe penetrations consider the following working steps:
Grind the surface of the pipe with a grinding paper or steel brush to ensure good adhesion.Clean the surface thoroughly.Prepare elements cutted from the membrane to fix the collar around the pipe.Use knife handle or similar to press the membrane correctly.Apply one additional strip of the membrane to secure the edge of the isolation.Cut the BT 21 to the required length, roll it up, remove the backing paper and fix it to the wall in vertical orientation and with an overlapping of 10 cm.Before fixing to the top make sure that the membrane is in horizontal / vertical orientation. The top edge of the membrane should be additionally protected.
CA 23 ALUMINIUM FIXING TAPE
BT 21 / BT 18 have to be protected against damage by a protective layer, e.g. polystyrene / PU boards.asure the dimensions and cut the boards precisely to a shape.
4, APPLICATION OF PROTECTIVE & INSULATION LAYER
For fixing EPS boards to the membrane bitumen sealant or PU foam can be used.Apply strips of the foam on the boards, wait few seconds and press the boards to the wall. After finishing the insulation work the excavation should be refilled.
