plaster it’s everywhere you want to be
Hi everyone, in this quick video I show how and why it’s necessary to install what are commonly referred to as “mud rings” for light fixtures, many folks and store also refer to them as stucco rings or plaster rings,
The idea is to place them on the wall, before you stucco and paper up to them and fuse the paper to the sides so water cant penetrate.
The need for them is so that you can properly attach the light fixture of your dreams properly.
These outlets should be flush with finished stucco or water can penetrate and sometimes cause electrical failures or worse.
The odd thing with these mud rings is that the majority of store sell them at a depth of 1/2 inch, instead of 3/4 or 7/8.
if you happen to buy these and they are not the correct depth as most aren’t either shim them out or attach them after the stucco netting as the netting will add the additional 1/4 a bead of caulking will be needed either way to seal these mud rings to the new paper for water tight protection.
FYI, They do sell 4″ Square to Round 3/4″ Raised Device Rings at a thickness of 7’8 to 3/4, both are perfect for attaching directly to the shear wall cladding, however the standard size appears to be 1/2.
Typical stucco depth ranges between 3/4 to 7/8 a bit more or less is not the end of the world or cause for alarm.

Get the Bearing and Seal Driver Here https://amzn.to/1ZyDtIm
I’ve seen some people go though all the trouble of removing the axles to replace a seal but I figure if you’ve gone that far for the price of a bearing you may as well toss a new one in with it.
one way to tell if your axle seal is leaking is oil coming from the drums when the drum is removed you will seal oil leaking around the seal. Using a axle bearing remover and a slide hammer that bearing will come out in a matter of seconds. if you have a bad axle bearing you should be able to hear some rear end noise while driving. anyways it’s beer time
